Getting Here

There are several ways to access Golden Square:

  • From the north, via 217 Lonsdale Street, where you can access the Main Square directly, and also take the stairs to the rooftop.

  • From the south, enter from Chinatown via 220 Little Bourke Street.

Save the planet and leave your car at home if you can. Golden Square is conveniently located near most forms of public transport including Melbourne’s iconic tram network. Plan your journey via Public Transport Victoria.

Nearest accessible train station: Melbourne Central Station (access via Swanston Street) and Flinders Street Station (access via Swanston Street).

Nearest accessible tram stop: Melbourne Central Station/State Library Tram Stop (Swanston Street between Little Lonsdale Street and La Trobe Street).

Venue

Golden Square Car Park provides safe parking and convenient access to China Town, Melbourne Central, Emporium, RMIT University, QV and Bourke Street Malls. Specialty stores, this modern piazza has become the heart and soul of Melbourne.

Covid Safety

The BDMF will operate in accordance with our COVIDSafe Event Plan and in accordance with the Victorian Government’s COVID-19 guidelines applicable at the time. Information relevant to keeping the BDMF COVIDSafe will be regularly updated here.

Please follow the instructions of event staff and volunteers and adhere to the following principles while attending.

  • Showing symptoms of COVID-19

If you begin to feel unwell while at the Festival, contact an event or venue staff member immediately – who will be highly visible. We also have a St John Ambulance Victoria on-site during all Festival hours for emergency assistance.

GENERAL COVID SAFE PRACTICES THAT YOU SHOULD FOLLOW AT THE FESTIVAL INCLUDE

  • Make frequent use of our hand sanitising facilities
  • We encourage the use of face masks
  • Listen to and comply with instructions given by event or venue staff
  • Stay up to date with the latest information from the Victorian Government at coronavirus.vic.gov.au

 

Accessibility & Inclusion

Part of the Festival takes place on the roof deck of a public car park that does not have lift access. Participants will need to traverse several flights of stairs to reach and exit the rooftop venue.

We have an assisted access plan in place for those with mobility needs. To access BLIA Oceania 30th Anniversary Digital Museum, the AR Cube Photography Experience, the Vegetarian Food Festival, Mindfulness Forest and Vege Plan A displays, please ensure you contact our Ticketing team on 03 9671 4539 or via email at info@bliav.org.au and let us know of your access requirements in advance.

ACCESSIBLE PARKING

2 x accessible parking bays are available on the ground floor of Golden Square Car Park – enter from Lonsdale Street. Additional accessible parking can be arranged on a case-by-case basis, in liaison with our Festival team and Golden Square Carpark staff.

ACCESSIBLE DROP OFF 

There is a designated area assigned to accessible drop off via the Lonsdale Street entry point through the car park boom gates. Area will be signposted.

ACCESSIBLE BATHROOM

The accessible bathroom is located on the ground floor next to the accessible drop off point. Another bathroom is located on the rooftop in the covered annexe. 

INTRA SITE TRANSPORT

A designated accessible vehicle transport service will operate from the ground floor from the Lonsdale Street drop off point to the rooftop venue for entry and return.
